Guam High School welcomes new Assistant Principal for SY 2018-2019

Agana Heights, Guam – Department of Defense Education Activity Guam, Community Superintendent, Mr. Jimmy Journey is pleased to announce the new Assistant Principal of Guam High School. DoDEA Pacific South, Guam Field Office would like to extend a warm “Hafa Adai” and welcome to Mr. Patrick W. Hughes. He now joins Mr. Jason Sheedy, Principal of Guam High School.

Patrick Hughes was born in Killeen, Texas. After graduating high school, Mr. Hughes joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard and is an Iraq War veteran/retired.

Mr. Hughes attended East Central University obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree Health, Physical Education, and Recreation with a minor in woodworking in 1989. He taught for several years in the classroom before going back to college to earn his Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma. Mr. Hughes worked as the Assistant Principal in charge of attendance at Guthrie High School for four years, until he was deployed to Iraq with the 45th Infantry Brigade. Upon his return he got promoted to Director of Alternative Education. He spent the last six years in this position developing curriculum, mentoring at risk students, and leading staff. Mr. Hughes has over the last twenty-eight years collaborated with administrators at all levels, K-12, parents and stakeholders in the community. Patrick and his wife Peggy have four children and four grandchildren. They love fishing, hunting, and riding their Harley Davidson motorcycle across the United States.
