HARKER HEIGHTS – The Board of Directors of the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) announced the selection of Colonel Rebecca Porter, Ph.D. as the organization’s future President and CEO. Dr. Porter is currently serving as Commander of the Public Health Command in Landstuhl, Germany. She will be transitioning into her new role at MCEC after her retirement from the United States Army in late July, 2019.

Dr. Porter will bring a background in family psychology and experience in organizational management into her position with MCEC. She holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara and a MA in counseling psychology from Chapman University, Orange, CA. As a founding member of MCEC’s Science Advisory Board she has been actively involved with the organization for the past 17 years. She shares a personal commitment to its mission, dedicated to helping military-connected children thrive through the challenges that come from the mobility, separations and other transitions of military family-life.

The selection of Dr. Porter as CEO comes after a thoughtful search and succession planning process. “After our first twenty years of making a difference to military-connected children and their families we see an increasing need and opportunity for our services,” said Mary Keller, Ed.D., MCEC, President and CEO. “It was essential to find someone with an understanding of our history and mission as well as the energy and vision for growth to lead the organization into its third decade of service and beyond,” she added.

Dr. Keller will be retiring after twenty years as President and CEO of MCEC. She will remain in her position and work with Dr. Porter through a period of transition through late 2019.
