Eleven-year-old Jy Joeng Son, a 5th grade student from Oleai Elementary School, was selected as one of the world contest winners in the 10th Toyota Dream Car Art Contest. There were over 850,000 entries from over 80 countries that submitted artwork to the global art contest. The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest encourages children from all corners of the globe to share their ideas about the future of mobility by drawing their dream cars.

Overall there are 10 winners in the three age categories, which include 7 years old and under, 8 ~ 11 years old, and 12 ~ 15 years old. This year is the first year that both Guam and Saipan students participated and there were over 240 art entries from island schools. Atkins Kroll, the local Toyota distributor, conducted the contest on both Guam and Saipan.

When asked what inspired her to draw a dream car, Jy Joeng said “origami, the art of folding paper”. Her dream car has the ability to fold itself as origami. Its malleability will allow the car to compress itself so that it will require minimum parking space.

The winning students are invited with their parents to a four-day trip to Japan from August 22 to 24, 2016. They will enjoy sightseeing, touring the Toyota factory, participating in cultural workshops in Nagoya and Tokyo, and finally, attending the World Awards ceremony.

“We at Toyota believe in nurturing the creativity of the next generation of great inventors, thinkers and dreamers and we are thrilled to recognize our Dream Car Art Contest winners,” said Marketing & Communication Director, Ernie Galito. “We applaud their creativity and congratulate these students, their parents and educators for their participation”.
