University of Guam Professor of Archaeology and Faculty Chairperson of the Micronesian Area Research Center, Dr. Michael Carson, will be featured in the upcoming National Geographic documentary Voyagers: Exploring Pacific Waters.
The documentary explores the history and legacy of Pacific voyaging and will air on National Geographic channel beginning July 2 and stream on Disney+ and Hulu beginning July 3.
Carson appears in the documentary discussing Pacific Islands archaeology and is also credited as a consultant for the production.
“As an archaeologist, it was a privilege to contribute to a project that shares the remarkable history of Pacific voyaging with a global audience,” Carson said.
A behind-the-scenes note: Carson filmed a segment on the earliest pottery of the Mariana Islands, although the final production instead features a discussion of Lapita pottery—one of many editorial decisions made during the filmmaking process.
