ACFGu Chapter announces the 2019 Excellence in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Awards
TUMON, GUAM U.S.A., January 25, 2019 – The American Culinary Federation Guam (ACFGu), a professional organization for cooks and chefs in the region, The Guam Daily Post, Bank of Guam, and Fonterra, and Hyatt Regency Guam will host the second annual Excellence in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Awards on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Guam.
The Excellence in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Awards (ECARA) are Guam’s most prestigious awards for the foodservice industry designed to recognize excellence among individuals and organizations that strive to elevate the culinary craft on Guam. This year’s awards categories include: the Guam Culinarian Award, Guam Outstanding Culinary Operation Award, Restaurant Concept of the Year Award, Outstanding Culinary Student Award, and Food Truck of the Year Award.
This year’s ECARA introduces the ECARA People’s Choice Award. For the first time, foodies on Guam will have the chance to vote for their favorite restaurant through The Guam Daily Post website. Additionally, Guam high school seniors and culinary students will have a chance to share their culinary vision through “My Culinary Dream” essay contest.
ACFGu President Miguel Moral said the organization looks forward to a more robust awards program this year.
"We learned from our experience with the inaugural ECARA awards and are excited about new award categories, engaging future culinarians and allowing the public to vote for their favorite restaurant," Moral stated. "We want to recognize those in the industry who continue to raise the bar in terms of the food they create and the level of impeccable and unforgettable service they provide to their customers.
Proceeds from ECARA 2019 will go towards GCC culinary scholarship and U.S. Department of Labor-recognized American Culinary Federation (ACF) certifications of cooks and chefs in the region. “A certification with ACF improves the quality of professional competency in the culinary industry. For cooks, it validates their skill and knowledge acquired in their career. It opens doors to many opportunities”, added Vicky Schrage, ECARA 2019 Chairperson.
