For residents wanting to stay on a healthy track through the holidays, the Guam SNAP-Ed program through the University of Guam Land Grant Extension Service will be hosting a free holiday-focused nutrition education workshop.

The four-part workshop — titled “Savor the Season: Small Steps Toward Big Change” — will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays from Dec. 16 to Jan. 6 in the Agriculture & Life Sciences Bldg., Room 127, on the UOG campus.

Participants will learn how to put a healthy twist on some favorite local holiday dishes while staying within a budget. Featured recipes will include:

  • Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Pancakes

  • Riyeñu (CHamoru Stuffing)

  • Påstit Kalamasa (Pumpkin Turnovers)

“The holidays are a challenging time to be healthy, but we’re excited to share some simple and practical ways people can enjoy holiday parties and foods without guilt and stay aligned with their wellness goals,” said Ella Macatugal, an extension associate with SNAP-Ed. Macatugal will be leading the workshop alongside Dr. Tanisha Aflague, a registered dietitian nutritionist with UOG Land Grant.

Registrants are encouraged to attend all four sessions. Those who attend at least three of the four sessions will receive some free educational enhancement tools.

Registration is free and open to adults age 18 to 59. Sign up at https://url.uog.edu/savor-the-season.

For more information, contact Ella Macatugal at macatugale@triton.uog.edu or (671) 735-2041.
