🧸 Teddy Bear Island Clinic 2025: Empowering Kids to Own Their Health

The Guam Community College (GCC) Allied Health Program is hosting the Teddy Bear Island Clinic, a unique and free event designed to help young children feel comfortable and empowered in medical settings.

Created by Dr. Angeline Sahagun Salas (with Saipan and Guam roots), the clinic aims to ease the fear children may have about visiting the doctor by letting them “take charge of their own health”.

The Clinic Experience

The event is an educational day disguised as fun, combining health literacy with playful learning:

Be the Doctor: Children step into the role of doctors as they care for their own “patients”—teddy bears.

Checkup Stations: Children will move through different stations that recreate the experience of a doctor’s visit, helping to familiarize them with clinical procedures.

Free Teddy Bear: The first 300 participants (ages 4–12) will receive a FREE teddy bear with registration (while supplies last).

Hosted by Local Healthcare Students

Participating children will be guided through the stations by students from several local programs, including:

GCC’s Practical Nursing and Medical Assisting Students

Members of the GCC Science and Math Club

Students from the University of Guam’s American Medical Student Association

Parents are encouraged to join in on this educational and inspiring event! Don’t miss this opportunity to inspire our future healthcare professionals and help ease children’s fears about medical visits.
