The ancient latte stones, or simply latte, are a modern symbol of Chamorro strength and identity. But how much do you know about these enduring pillars of Chamorro culture? Here are seven things to know about latte.
The latte were constructed by the Chamorros between 1200 BP to 300 BP (before present) and was in use up until around the time the Spanish colonized the Marianas in the 1600s.

Plaza de Espana served as the center of cultural, religious, and government activities for centuries. In the 1660s, the Spanish colonial government chose this site as the Plaza Principal. Historic sites here include the Azotea, the last remaining structural element of the Governor’s Palace; the Almacen Arches, Guam’s signature triple arches that were once the entrance of the royal warehouse built in 1736; and the Chocolate House, the small round building that was used by both the Spanish and American administrations to host meriendas where beverages and pastries were served. While you’re in Hagatna, take some time to explore the Heritage Walking Trail that connects 17 historical sites and brings to life the resilient and fascinating history of the Chamorro people.

Inarajan

The village was officially established in 1680 by the Spanish, along with St. Joseph Church, and was one of the main villages on Guam during the Spanish era.

Gef Pa’go

Staffed mainly by elder Chamorros who demonstrate traditional Chamorro arts, crafts, and cooking to visitors, Gef Pa’go Chamorro Cultural Village is modeled after a community from the 40s and 50s, when the Chamorro lifeways were more prevalently practiced. Gef Pa’go is maintained by the historic Inalahan Foundation in an effort to preserve local culture and pass down traditions to younger generations.
Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral - Basilica

The 2.5-mile (4km) trek winds through some of Guam’s most iconic historical sites including the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica, which stands on the land that Chief Kepuha gave to Father Luis Diego de San Vitores in 1669 to build the first Roman Catholic church in Guam. To this day, the Cathedral is the center of Guam’s Catholic community.

San Antonio Bridge, one of several surviving stone bridges on the island. It was built in 1800 and spanned the Agaña River until the river was diverted in 1946. Beside the bridge is a statue of Sirena, Guam’s legendary mermaid.
The San Antonio Bridge is a less visited area so it’s a good place for sitting and chatting. The bridge was originally built over a river, but now there is no water since the river was diverted. It’s located in Agana across the boat basin and can be seen from Marine Drive.

In one of Guam’s most enduring legends, Puntan and Fu’una are the brother and sister gods of creation who sacrificed themselves to create the universe.
At her brother’s request, Fu’una used her spirit to divide Puntan’s body and use it to create the universe. With his back she made the earth, with his chest she made the sky. One of his eyes became the sun, and the other became the moon. With his eyebrows she made rainbows.

In Umatac houses are close to one another with just a few streets that wind through the village. These small streets allow one to easily find and visit many of the villages historic and cultural sites.

The Old Court Buidling of Guam is one of the newest additions to the Guam Register of Historic Places under U.S. military rule the poeple of Guam were afforded very few rights and protections and were considered Ward’s of the nations with no U.S. citizenship and no application to the nation’s Constitution.
This building was paid for by the people of Guam and symbolized that they were finally given the right to have three equal branches of government the judicial legislative and executive branches instead of one branch of military government that had existed previously.

It was a night of flavors and fashion, because along with debut of the new luxury chocolates, fashion designer Sophie Ann Cochevelou designed four dresses inspired by the new collection. Cochevelou is an East London-based fashion, costume and jewelry designer and performance maker.

The village’s Chamorro name, Inalåhan (Inarajan), probably refers to the åla or large woven coconut-leaf harvest baskets for which the village was noted. The name could also be derived from the word hålla, meaning to pull something or move something with a rope tied to it.

The small village of Umatac is located in southern Guam along Umatac Bay. The community of Umatac is relatively smaller than others on Guam and made up of a handful of residents, many of whom are related to each other.
