Connect your family to the rich heritage of the island and the vibrant life of our coastal waters. The Guam Department of Agriculture, Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources (DAWR) proudly presents the 2026 Youth Fishing Derby and Pre-Derby Fishing Clinic.
Designed specifically for young anglers ages 5 to 17, this seasonal island event introduces Guam’s youth to the joys of angling while instilling a deep appreciation for marine conservation, responsible stewardship, and the sustainable traditional fishing practices woven into CHamoru culture.

Build Confidence: Pre-Derby Fishing Clinic
Before lines hit the water on derby day, DAWR is hosting an instructional, hands-on workshop tailored to give both novice and experienced young anglers a boost of confidence.
Participants will receive direct coaching from local experts in foundational angling skills, covering essential techniques such as:
Knot Tying & Rigging: Mastering the lines for a successful catch.
Casting Accuracy: Perfecting the distance and placement of your line.
Angling Safety & Etiquette: Ensuring a safe, respectful day on the shore for everyone.
Responsible Angling: Learning the ethics of catch-and-release and sustainable harvesting.

Competition & Culture: The 2026 Youth Fishing Derby
Bring your gear, your family, and your competitive spirit to the stunning shores of Tumon Bay. The derby offers a space for friendly competition, outdoor recreation, and immediate connection with Guam’s precious coastal ecosystems.
Beyond the prizes and catches, the core mission of the event centers on ecological awareness. Throughout the day, young participants will learn directly about the critical importance of Guam’s marine preserves. DAWR educators will highlight how these protected spaces replenish local fish populations, shield vital coral reef habitats, and safeguard sustainable island fisheries for generations to come.
