HITA Talk — Rulan Tangen and Dancing Earth
Thursday, October 12, 2017 — 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. — Museum Indoor Theater
This month’s HITA talk welcomes internationally recognized choreographer and dancer, Rulan Tangen, together, with members of the indigenous dance ensemble, Dancing Earth. Embodying intertribal and ecological philosophies, Dancing Earth promotes cultural diversity and indigenous healing through art and dance. Rulan Tangen will give an introduction, followed by a performance by Dancing Earth and a panel discussion with Tangen and Dr. Kimberlee Kihleng, Director of Humanities Guahan. This HITA Talk is presented by Humanities Guahan and the Guam Museum.
Ha’ånen Familia — Fina’nå’guen Peskadot (Fishing Expo)
Saturday, October 14, 2017 — 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. — Museum Multipurpose Room
Every 2nd Saturday of the month is Ha’ånen Familia at your Guam Museum! This month, we bring you “Fina’nå’guen Peskadot.” Local fishermen will introduce families to traditional and contemporary fishing techniques and tools, such as the fisga (spear), talaya and chenchulu (nets) and nasa (traps). This Ha’anen Familia is made possible by the University of Guam Sea Grant, the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Guam Advisory Panel and Humanitites Guahan.
Documentary Film and Panel Discussion — Flow: For Love of Water (1 Hour 30 Minutes)
Saturday, October 21 — 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. — Museum Indoor Theater.
The Guam Museum is pleased to feature Humanities Guahan programming for the duration of their joint exhibition, Hita i Hanom and Water/Ways. Join us for a film screening of Flow: For the Love of Water, which explores the crisis surrounding the growing privatization of the world’s fresh water supply. A panel discussion will follow.
Open Mic Night
Wednesday, October 25, 2017 — 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. — Museum Lobby
The Guam Museum proudly presents Open Mic Night. Share an acoustic performance, song, poem or story. Sign-up begins at 6:00 p.m. This month’s featured artist: Gene Castro and Joe Hernandez.
