Don’t forget that the Guam Summer Carnival and Night Market, which kicked off on June 9, will last until Aug. 14.

Throughout the period, the summer festival and night market are open 6-11 p.m. weekdays and until 12 a.m. for weekends and holidays. The carnival features more than 55 vendors offering various games, foods and carnival rides at the Tiyan Carnival Grounds in Barrigada. There is no admission fee.

Local and international foods, desserts, treats, sweets and delicacies are available. You can also enjoy various entertainment such as bingo, caricature painting, novelties, kids’ and adult rides as well as a rock-wall, agricultural displays, trampoline, off-roading, balloons, arts and crafts, paintball and a zip line. There is even casino (open 24 hours) and nightly entertainment.

Fireworks are launched every Sunday night throughout these summer-long events.

The Guam Summer Carnival and Night Market commemorate the U.S. military liberating the island from Japanese occupation on July 21, 1944, and is organized by the Guam Liberation Historical Society and the Mayors’ Council of Guam every year. Festivities culminate in the annual July 21 Liberation Day Parade, which the groups also organize.
