When the sun sets on Guam, there are plenty of options to spend an evening out on the town. Here are just a few ways to experience Guam after dark.

★ Live Music
There’s a good chance that if you walk into any hotel on the Tumon strip, there will be live music of some sort – completely free! Local music icons like dynamic duo Jesse and Ruby can be found playing nightly at the Outrigger Resort Guam; jazz pianist Patrick Palomo plays at Dusit Thani Guam Resort on Sundays and Mondays; and rock/reggae group The John Dank Show plays Saturdays and every other Wednesday at Abandon Ship. Other spots in Tumon known for their live music scene include Livehouse, Cowboy Ninja, and The Beach Bar and Grill.

★ Dancing
Put on your dancing shoes and hit these spots to get your groove on. The Globe is one of Guam’s hottest dance spots, playing EDM to R&B and everything in between, and featuring the island’s largest dance floor with multi-level facilities. Along with smooth beats, club Drop’s mixologists create unique drinks to enhance your experience. For an old school throwback, Kento’s is known for bringing generations of classic pop music to the dance floor with live music performed by one of Guam’s most popular party bands.

★ Amusement Park
For an adrenaline spike, Tagada Amusement Park is where to go for heart-pounding thrills in Tumon. Jump on the bumper cars for a bone-jarring ride; hold tight on the Tagada Disco as it bounces you to the beat; and set sail on The Viking and take in the view as you’re swung into the Tumon sky. Tickets are sold separately or in packages and at special rates for members. Tagada is open from 3 p.m. to midnight on weekends, and 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays.

★ Star Gazing
When all is said and done, sometimes Mother Nature provides the perfect after-dark family adventure. Guam’s clear skies are prime for stargazing, from the sands along Tumon Bay to the southern coastlines Guam. Don’t be surprised if you see more shooting stars than you’ve ever seen in your life.

★ Magic Shows
Modern-day magicians put on spectacular magic shows in dazzling showrooms and intimate theaters in Tumon. Let yourself be mystified and thrilled by the tricks and illusions in these family-friendly shows.

★ Chamorro Cultural Shows
Throughout the world, traditional dance brings communities together in a common purpose: to preserve and promote awareness of cultural heritage through performance arts. Whether it’s to celebrate rites of passage, bring folklore and history to life, or to commune with the ancients and the land, traditional dance is a key component in cultural survival, and this is especially true for Guam.

During your time on Guam, don’t miss an opportunity to watch spirited Chamorro dancers bring Guam’s history and traditions to life with vibrant performances that have captivated audiences all around the world. The Dinana’ Minagof Festival (held every February) and the Dinana Pa’a Taotao Tano’ Chamorro Dance Competition & Festival (held every June) are Guam’s largest annual celebrations of Chamorro dance and both festivals are events the whole family can enjoy.

Chamorro dance can also be seen every week at the Chamorro Village Wednesday Night Market. Many hotels incorporate some Chamorro dance in their Polynesian-themed dinner shows, but these shows are known for prominently featuring Chamorro cultural dance:

★ Bayside BBQ Dinner & Show
Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort
Featuring an island-style fiesta buffet and entertainment by Guam’s renowned Chamorro dance groups, Pa’a TaoTao Tano and Inetnon Gefpa’go.

★ Taotao Tasi Guam
Beach Bar & Grill
Featuring unlimited BBQ buffet on the beach with ocean view and a large-cast show with 50 performers on a 150-foot stage.

★ Chamorro Village
It’s another Wednesday night on Guam. As the thick heat and smoke from fiery grills makes its wispy way into a moonlit sky before finally dissipating, small crowds of people become increasingly dense as they congregate and form lines full of anticipation next to open air stalls selling everything from jewelry, clothing, art, food, and an uncountable array of merchandise.

The savory smell of spices and searing meat waft over a bustling marketplace full of life and energy. Kaleidoscopes of colors overwhelm senses as the visitor becomes engrossed in the thrill of the moment. Once again, the Chamorro Village in central Hagåtña, a bustling traditional shopping center between Marine Corps Drive and the Paseo Loop, hosts its night market, and one more time vendors from around the island are selling items that are imbued with the skill, ingenuity and passion of their creators.

Someone shouts, laughter ensues and a band strikes up a tune, filling the nighttime sky with sounds of amusement and festivity. For a few more hours, this scene continues, and as the shops and stands begin to close for the night, customers leave with precious items that are unique, one of a kind and will forever be repositories of timeless memories.

To be sure, Guam is a prime destination for a modern shopping experience replete with luxury goods, cutting edge fashion and duty free enjoyment, yet the island also presents excellent opportunities to purchase locally made goods that represent the best of the island experience. The beauty of our island may be unforgettable, but by purchasing an item made in Guam, the buyer ensures the memories are forever within a hands reach.

Although the vendors and shops in the Chamorro Village sell a wide range of items both made in Guam and made off island, it is one of the best areas to find items crafted by the hands of our local retailers and artisans.

★ Tumon Night Market
Guam has a new meaning to Saturday Night Live …. the Tumon Night Market!

Twinkling canopies, delicious food samplings, independent retailers and artisans are just a few of the features at the open air Tumon Night Market. The market opened in September 2016 and is held every Saturday night from 5-10 p.m. at Governor Joseph Flores Memorial Park, also known as Ypao Beach.

At the Tumon Night Market you’ll find over two dozen unique food stands and food trucks serving Chamorro barbecue and other local dishes such as red rice, chicken kelaguen and local seafood. Other vendors feature international cuisines from Vietnam, Japan, Korea and China. Vendors also sell beverages and treats such as fresh fruit juices, donuts, ice cream and shaved ice.

The Tumon Night Market also features 30 independent retailers and artisans that were specifically selected in order to offer visitors a variety of arts and crafts, locally made products, toys and other unique gifts that are travel-friendly and easy for visitors to take home.

The market offers a spirited fiesta-like atmosphere with live local bands playing island reggae music. Jumpers and other fun activities are available for kids to enjoy.

Ypao Beach is within walking distance from most hotels in Tumon Bay. Guests can also get there by taking the Guahan Trolley to the Ypao Beach bus stop, located in front of Guam Visitors Bureau between the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa and Pacific Islands Club. The Tumon Night Market is a family-friendly event that is open to the public and free to enter.

Come and enjoy street food, live music and shopping every Saturday night and watch one of Guam’s most popular beaches come alive after dark at the new Tumon Night Market.

★ Mangilao Night Market
On Thursday nights, the village of Mangilao comes alive with its own night market. Located along Guam Route 10, which runs through the Chamorro Village, and near Saint Teresita Church, the market brightens up the night sky and welcomes customers onto its grounds with a large sign depicting a waving, smiling chili pepper.

Many of the same arts, crafts, woodwork and food of Chamorro Village can be found in this market, however many vendors are exclusive to these grounds, so further exploration of this market is warranted.
