SANTA RITA, Guam (Sept. 5, 2018) – U.S. Naval Base Guam Fire and Emergency Services (NBG-FES) received a call for assistance from the Regional Dispatch Center to a house fire in Dededo on Sept. 4. The request came in from the Guam Fire Department under the provisions of a Mutual-Aid Agreement between Commander, Joint Region Marianas and Government of Guam.

Engine-5 from Fire Station 5 at Naval Base Guam-Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station (NBG-NCTS) responded to the emergency.

Upon arrival, Engine-5 personnel saw a modular residential home fully engulfed in flames. The crew immediately deployed two hose lines and set-up for a fast attack operation to engage the fire. The intensity of the flames, and impending collapse of the structure, called for a defensive attack operation.

Working alongside Guam Fire Department crews, the fire was extinguished less than 10 minutes upon arrival. No one was injured as the home was not occupied at the time of the fire.

This year to date, NBG Fire and Emergency Services provided 138 mutual-aid requests to the Government of Guam. Those requests included nine automobile accidents, three wildland fires, and 120 emergency medical services calls. The Mutual-Aid Agreement helps build relationships, and enhances the safety and security of the civilian and military communities.

This agreement provides personnel and equipment required for the protection of life and property from fires; firefighting and suppression to include emergency services, including basic and advanced life support, hazardous material containment and confinement, special rescue events involving vehicular and water mishaps and trench building and confines space extractions.
