The University of Guam Division of English and Applied Linguistics, in partnership with the University of Guam Press, will launch the 18th issue of its literary journal, “Storyboard,” at 5 p.m. on May 23 at Asiga Café, behind Oka Pay-Less in Tamuning. The journal features 28 pieces of creative prose, artwork, and poetry inspired by the theme of sustainable islands. The works explore the different layers of what sustainability means to islands and their people.

An editorial board of UOG faculty members reviewed and selected pieces for this compilation and found that contributors presented unique perspectives on sustainability.

“While sustainability is often associated in the mainstream with the practice of ‘going green,’ for island communities it means much more,” said Holly Rustick, editor of the journal. “Sustainability includes a multi-tiered system of people, resources, legends, heirlooms, land, traditions, and practices.”

Many of the writers and artists featured in “Storyboard 18” will be present at the launch to share and discuss their work. The current and past issues of the journal will be available for sale.
