This 56th Charter Day celebration marks the anniversary of the signing of the charter that renamed the Territorial College of Guam to the University of Guam in 1968.

In support of UOG’s celebration, Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero signed a proclamation on Friday, March 1, declaring March 7 as the University of Guam Charter Day and the month of March as UOG Charter Day Month.

“Since its founding, UOG has conferred over 20,000 bachelor’s and master’s degrees to graduates who serve as the foundation of our island’s and region’s professional workforce and who strengthen our economy as they establish themselves in businesses and in the community as accountants, scientists, nurses, teachers, entrepreneurs, social workers, engineers, and many other specialties,” the governor’s proclamation states, in part.

UOG President Anita Borja Enriquez and a team of administrators, staff, and students joined the governor at Adelup. President Enriquez thanked the UOG Community and its network of supporters for helping to lift the University to what is today, with its expanding role in nationally recognized research initiatives and in developing a diversified professional workforce in Guam and the region.

“We always get asked the question: What would our island be without the University? There’s so much pride because of the heightened level and depth of initiatives that truly support the fabric of our society at a social and economic level,” President Enriquez said at the proclamation signing. “So there’s so much more that we’re doing.”

President Enriquez commended UOG’s 62nd Student Government Association for taking the lead in organizing Charter Day events.

More than 1,000 elementary to high school students are expected to make their way to UOG on field trips for campus tours.”
