Interim Communications Manager, University Marketing & Communications, University of Guam February 21, 2023
The University of Guam established ties with the National Museum of Taiwan Literature through a memorandum of understanding on January 11, 2023.
The partnership aims to continue to build stronger relations between the University and Taiwan institutions and promote exchanges of cultural and educational activities.
UOG Senior Vice President and Provost Anita Borja Enriquez and Director Carlos Taitano of the Global Learning & Engagement Department visited Taiwan for the signing with the museum’s Director Nikki Lin.
They were joined by Kuan-Ju Chen, assistant professor of agricultural economics, and the senior liaison of the Asia Pacific Universities Consortium for UOG.
The MOU will be followed by preparations to hold an exhibit in Guam, sometime in June 2023, to feature Austronesian artwork in a UOG partnership with the Taiwan museum and National Taitung University.
“Through the collaborative work between UOG and the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in Guam, we will continue to facilitate cultural and educational activities and build the connections between our two islands,” said Enriquez.
The exhibit will feature indigenous cultures in the form of literature, handmade products, sculptures, and photography among various forms of artwork.
“By working with our partners in Taiwan, we hope to foster and deepen our understanding of Austronesian culture and learning of diversity in the arts,” said Chen.
The UOG delegation also visited some of its sister universities in Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office, and the headquarters of Honhui Group which is a major real estate investor in Guam.
