The University of Guam’s Upward Bound (UB) is offering a free summer program for low-income and/or first-generation high school students who want to pursue a college education.

The program aims to serve 103 students who will be in ninth to 12th grade in School Year 2023-2024 and meet the program’s eligibility criteria.

The application deadline has been extended to Monday, June 26, 2023. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the program’s office located in the UOG Calvo Field House, next to the Fitness Center.

The summer program offers high school academic courses, college and career preparation, field trips, off-island college/cultural tours, and fun social activities. Students also earn a stipend/allowance as part of their participation in Upward Bound.

It will run from July 3 through August 4, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on campus at UOG. Breakfast and lunch will be available.

The UOG Upward Bound program serves students primarily from George Washinton High School, John F. Kennedy High School, Okkodo High School, Southern High School, and Tiyan High School. Students who do not attend these public schools may also apply if they meet the eligibility criteria.

The program is 100% federally funded and aims to generate the skills and motivation necessary for college-bound students to successfully complete high school and enroll in college.
