The University of Guam Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Student Chapter has earned the SHRM Superior Merit Award for the 2023-2024 academic year. This recognition is the highest honor granted to student chapters by SHRM’s national professional organization, signifying UOG SHRM’s status as one of the top SHRM Student Chapters, nationally and globally. The award reflects excellence across all chapter activities and operations throughout the year.
“The Superior Merit Award recognizes our Student Chapter as a world-class organization,” said Dr. Richard Colfax, UOG SHRM co-advisor and Emeritus Professor. “The UOG SHRM Student Chapter continues a long history of excellence and performance while contributing to the development of our students, the School of Business and Public Administration, UOG, and the greater Guam business community.”
Since its inception in 1996-1997, UOG SHRM has been an active and highly effective student organization, earning the SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award almost every year. Dr. Joann Diego, SHRM faculty advisor and founding member, credits the teamwork of the chapter’s officers, members, and advisors in securing the award for another year.
“I am incredibly proud of our SHRM student chapter for their exceptional dedication and hard work. Their initiatives have provided valuable learning experiences for our students and contributed to the growth of human resource studies at UOG,” said Diego.
Throughout the year, the chapter hosts various activities that aim to promote a deeper understanding of human resource management, including its signature Mock Job Fair, member retention events like Breezes N Blankets, the SBPA Halloween Flight Night, and networking events with the SHRM Guam Professional Chapter.
SHRM Student Chapter President Denzyl Mariei Ngiralmau believes that receiving the Merit Award for another year demonstrates the chapter’s commitment to bringing value to its members and the community.
“It’s not just an accolade,” Ngiralmau said. “It symbolizes how we continue to propel forward with purpose, growth, and lasting impact.”
