BBQ buffs island-wide are invited to refine their skills on the grill at a BBQ Bootcamp being offered by meat and animal scientists from the University of Guam Cooperative Extension & Outreach, National Chung Hsing University, and Chinese Culture University.

BBQ Bootcamp: Boston Butt

  • 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Friday, Aug. 23

  • Agriculture & Life Sciences Bldg., Room 125A/B, University of Guam

  • Fee: $40

The bootcamp will educate participants on four different preparations for Boston pork butt: Texas-style pulled pork, Guam-style tinala katne, Taiwan-style char siu, and Taiwan-style braised pork with red rice. Participants will get hands-on experience with barbecuing techniques and smoking meat while also learning about food safety with meat preparation. They will also enjoy a BBQ dinner and leave with uncooked meat and recipes to prepare at home.

Registration and payment

Space is limited to 30 participants. Residents may register at https://url.uog.edu/bbq-bootcamp and must make payment of $40 by Wednesday, Aug. 21, to confirm their spot. Payment can be made in cash or check to Glenda Hall in UOG Agriculture & Life Sciences Building, Room 227.
