Something scrumptious and “healthy” is on the menu at Guam’s newest dessert destination, Yogurtland.
The locally owned franchise of the Anaheim, calif.-based business is stirring things up at its new Agana Shopping Center location.
“We are certainly a healthy way to treat yourself. (Yogurt has a) culture that is good for you,” said John Lee, local Yogurtland owner and operator. “All of our yogurt is non-fat and low calorie. This is a very tasty dessert and you won’t have to feel guilty about it.”
The restaurant features self-serve stations with several different flavors of frozen yogurt that patrons can try and then indulge in.
“The secret is trying it before you commit to it. The flavor of fro-yo (frozen Yogurt) you pick really makes a difference with what you add to it in the toppings bar,” said Yogurt enthusiast Janelle Mayers. “That’s what I like most about this place; you can try it and even mix the flavors if you want.”
After picking the desired flavors of frozen yogurt, customers are then invited to add toppings to help maximize their taste bud tantalization.
“We have fresh kiwi and fresh strawberries along with 10 other fruits. Plus we have another 25 to 30 fruit toppings from cheesecake bites and brownie bites to mochi (glutinous rice cake), the most popular topping,” added Lee. “We rotate them so that we can feature new toppings as well. We have 35 different toppings that you can see at anytime.”
Pricing of the dessert you create is based on its weight.
For the Guzman family, Yogurtland brings back memories of their time spent stateside.
“We just came from (Denver, Colo.) and they have a Yourtland there,” said Leon Guzman. “If there are people who are here on island and they are feeling homesick, this will pick them up.”
For 15-year-old Alicia Benevente, Yogurtland provides a great environment to socialize in while enjoying a delicious treat.
“The yogurt is really good and I like coming here to hang out with friends,” said Benevente.
Theresa Castro believes the Yogurtland experience is definitely worth sharing with those closest to you.
“I always drag my child with me. I ask him if he wants yogurt and I’m like ‘yeah, you do?’ It’s a family thing,” she explained.
Castro also thinks the great selection of options that are offered at the restaurant make it easier to bring others because it helps everyone find something they like.
“I am chowing everything Yogurtland has to offer!,” added Castro.
Agana Shopping Center is in Hagatna on Route 4. Yogurtland is open daily, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and until 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. For more information, call 475-9595.
