36th Wing Public Affairs March 23, 2023
Andersen Air Force Base, Guam – U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kevin Mouzon, the noncommissioned officer in charge of water and fuels system maintenance assigned to the 554th Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers, was recognized as the 36th Wing’s Team Andersen Linebacker of the Week, at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, March 15, 2023.
The Team Andersen Linebacker of the Week recognizes outstanding enlisted, officer, civilian and total force personnel who have had an impact on achieving Team Andersen’s mission, vision and priorities.
After arriving at Andersen AFB in February 2021, Mouzon started out as the water and fuels system maintenance supervisor where he led a team of six Airmen. After his transition to NCOIC, he quickly made an impact by upgrading two of his troops from apprentice to journeymen. Mouzon also took over three squadron programs. Currently, Mouzon manages the unit safety and voting programs. He delivers absentee voting assistance to 196 Airmen and ensures Occupational Safety and Health Administrations standards are met. He is also a trusted government purchase card holder, managing a $750,000 budget.
As the NCOIC of water and fuels system maintenance, Mouzon ensures new water design specifications meet national building code requirements. He also oversees heavy construction projects and guides a contingency training program in support of the Indo-Pacific command’s 100-million square mile area of responsibility. Mouzon is the REDHORSE team leader for Pacific Air Force’s expedient water production and bed down capabilities. During his time here, he has deployed to Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea, where he constructed a $2 million laundry and latrine facility, which increased the Republic of Korea’s exercise capability by 480 members. Furthermore, he led his team and trained four members on installing a $700,000 utility system.
“My favorite part of the job is mentoring,” said Mouzon. “I love talking with people about the mistakes, helping them see the benefits of messing up because that’s how we learn.”
Mouzon’s unit involvement demonstrates his commitment to improving the unit and community. He has mentored four Airmen coming straight out of technical training, volunteers with the booster club and is the REDHORSE representative for the Sister Village Sister Squadron program. He has led over 90 volunteers for Sinajana clean-ups and Liberation Day events.
“My overall experience has helped me mature in taking care of people,” said Mouzon. “It’s not about my personal gain or interest, it’s enjoyable to see people appreciating what you do for them.”
The term Linebacker is rooted deep within Team Andersen’s history. Operation Linebacker II took place on Dec. 18, 1972, and was the largest number of heavy bomber strikes launched by the U.S. Air Force since the end of World War II. During the operation, B-52s from Andersen flew round-the-clock bombing missions over North Vietnam to destroy major targets in Hanoi and Haiphong in an effort to bring the Democratic Republic of Vietnam back to negotiations.
The recipient will have the opportunity to sign a “Linebacker” football jersey that will be displayed in the Wing Headquarters building.
Way to go, Mouzon!
