Sam Shinohara, Managing Director of Airport Operations, Asia/Pacific at United, thanked the Guam Visitors Bureau for their partnership in making the new route possible for Guam.

He said, “The new Taipei-Guam route expands an exciting new destination for Guam’s tourism industry and provides more direct connections to Asia for Guam’s residents. We have been working to develop the Taipei-Guam route for some time now as we believe that introducing a new route for Guam will help the island to diversify its visitor base and provide more convenient connections for business and leisure travelers in the region.”

Kenichi Kiriyama, Director of Sales, Japan and Micronesia at United, said, “We are pleased to connect two of the most beautiful destinations in Asia Pacific and offer our customers more travel destinations to explore. Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is a cultural and economic center with a population of about two and a half million people and will also serve as a convenient forwarding city from many destinations in South East Asia.”

“I want to thank GVB and United Airlines for the partnership that returns direct air service between Guam and Taipei. This move will help our efforts to expand tourism and provide our residents to pursue economic opportunities and access to specialty healthcare,” said Lt. Governor of Guam Joshua Tenorio.

“We want to thank Ken Kiriyama for his commitment to this project. After communicating with many people from United Airlines over the last several months, Ken’s efforts kept Guam top of mind until this pivotal accomplishment. I truly commend the team at United Airlines for their time and support in reconnecting this vital route and strengthening our ties between Guam and Taiwan. Last, but not the least, my deepest appreciation goes out to the former President & CEO Carl Gutierrez and our GVB team for their enduring efforts. As we unite to bring back the Taiwan market, our journey to improve tourism for Guam continues with more dedication than ever. Our work is far from over, but if we’ve made this much progress in just a few short months, think what we can accomplish together in the future ahead,” stated Acting GVB President & CEO, Dr. Gerald Perez.

Guam travelers will not need a visa to travel to Taipei, which is known to be an affordable destination offering many enjoyable options for history, cultural, architectural, and culinary enthusiasts. Taipei is also known as one of the most walkable cities in the world.

As Guam’s hometown airline for more than 55 years, United offers more than 80 weekly flights to 14 destinations in Taiwan, Japan, Manila, Palau, and islands in the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. Customers can book travel between Taipei and Guam later this month.
