Whether you’re working from home, sheltering in place or just staying home, if you’re like us, you’re probably dreaming of open skies, sandy beaches, tall mountains, or perfect powdery slopes. Our travel plans may be on hold, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream up where we’ll go next.

Welcome to virtual vacation video series where we can explore destinations from the comfort of our homes.

Join us as we take a short virtual journey to Bali, Indonesia.

The great thing about this destination is that it is easily accessible from almost anywhere in the Pacific theater and getting there can be relatively inexpensive thanks to many budget airline options in the region.

Bali is a tropical island blessed with natural beauty, rich history, traditional Hindu culture and arts, and delicious cuisine. This is a great place for a quick getaway.

Some of the must-see spots in Bali include:

  • Uluwatu Temple — High above on an impressive black cliff, Uluwatu Temple is the Indonesia’s religious and cultural landmark. Against backdrop of the vast blue ocean, this 1,000-year-old temple, which enshrines the Spirit of the Sea, offers a divine, solemn atmosphere. Visit the temple in the evening and catch the traditional Kecak fire dance performed by locals.

  • Jatiluwih — Once a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site candidate, the Jatiluwih rice terraces are vast and beautiful fields stretching as far as the eye can see. Try the “Bali Swing” for a swing between palm trees 150 feet high above the fields. From here you’ll get a great view of Jatiluwih and neighboring Mount Batukaru.

  • Bali Zoo — This modern zoo, open since 2017, gives you a close look at over 450 of Bali’s local animal species such as Komodo Dragon and Sumatran Tiger. Bali Zoo offers a night safari for a glimpse into the lives of the area’s rare nocturnal animals. You can also try elephant rides through the zoo’s tropical jungle.

A visit to Bali would not be complete without sampling the local dish “Mee goreng,” consisting of fried noodles with deep-fried shrimp and squid in a sweet and sour sauce. Satay chicken and fish grilled skewers are also a popular street food you can’t miss.

I hope you enjoyed our virtual visit to the enchanting island of Bali and that perhaps it's inspired your next trip. Stay safe and get ready to travel with us in our next video. Thanks for watching!
