Join us as we take a short virtual journey to Okinawa.
Okinawa is easy to get to from most bases around Japan’s mainland and is a quick plane ride from Tokyo. Okinawa has plenty of culture, shopping, activities and food, which make it a great place for a getaway.
Some of the must-see spots in Okinawa include:
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium— This is one of the largest aquariums in the world and is a great place to check out the local marine life up close. Say hi to enormous whale sharks and rays and let the dolphins’ acrobatic moves take your breath away.
Maeda Point – This popular dive/snorkeling spot has a famous blue grotto where the water shines in mysterious blue color and dazzles visitors. After, head to the cafés in the neighborhood for a relaxing lunch and plenty of tropical vibes.
Kokusai Street – A trip to Okinawa isn’t complete without a visit to Kokusai Street. This Okinawan main street is lined with many souvenir shops and restaurants. Don’t forget to check out the local market street nearby for more shopping in a maze of stands selling food and goods.
And if you have time, take the two-hour ferry ride from Naha to Kerama Islands. These islands boast of some of the most beautiful beaches in not just Okinawa but also in the world. Stunning views of the ocean and wonderful encounters with sea turtles and rays are waiting for you on Kerama’s peaceful coasts.
While touring the island, add Okinawa soba noodles to the list. These noodles made of flour have a chewy texture which pairs well with the rich broth made of bonito flakes and pork bones. Topped with stewed pork ribs, you will see why this dish is loved by not just locals, but also many tourists.
I hope you enjoyed a look at Okinawa through travel photos and that it's inspired your next trip. Stay safe and get ready to travel with us in our next video. Thanks for watching!
