Welcome to virtual vacation video series where we can explore destinations from the comfort of our homes.
Join us as we take a short virtual journey to Singapore.
The great thing about this destination is that it is easily accessible from almost anywhere in the Pacific theater and getting there can be relatively inexpensive thanks to many budget airline options in the region.
Singapore is a small island country where old-meets-new and where influences of European, Chinese, Malayan, and more cultures collide.
Some of the must-see spots in Singapore include:
Raffles Landing Site – A statue of Thomas Raffles offers one of Singapore’s most popular photo op sites. Since British colonial administrator Thomas Raffle’s arrival in 1819, what was once a fishermen’s island has now become one of the most advanced Asian countries. To witness the history, take a tour around the surrounding district for a close look at the beautiful colonial-style buildings, such as Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, Raffles Hotel, St. Andrew’s Cathedral and the National Museum of Singapore. Facing the Marina Bay, a fountain statue of the Merlion is a symbol of Singapore and offers another great site for pictures.
Marina Area – Marina Area is a glimpse at a future-oriented cityscape with innovative skyscrapers. Marina Bay Sands is a multipurpose facility where you can enjoy a 360-degree vista from its 656-feet high observation deck. Walking high along the suspension bridge in the “Gardens by the Bay” botanical garden will transport you to a sci-fi world.
Little India— In the northeastern end of downtown, Little India invites you to the site where South Indians migrated during the 1820s. Here you can see many descendants preserving their Hindu tradition and also enjoy authentic Indian food.
A visit to Singapore would not be complete without sampling Hainanese chicken rice, a well-flavored steamed and chopped chicken on rice that is also steamed in chicken soup, topped with ginger and chili sauce. The flavorful dish will have you wanting more.
I hope you enjoyed our virtual visit to the enchanting island of Singapore and that perhaps it's inspired your next trip. Stay safe and get ready to travel with us in our next video. Thanks for watching!
