ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- In a meaningful effort to capture memories for future generations, the Webelos Den of Cub Scout Pack 4420 at Andersen Air Force Base has launched an exciting project to create a time capsule. This special initiative took place on a sunny Veterans Day morning in early November, uniting scouts, families, and community members in a celebration of scouting and history.

The time capsule, to be stored in the scout house at Andersen AFB, features a collection of items selected by the Webelos to represent themselves and reflect aspects of popular culture from the 2020s. Each scout contributed personal artifacts, letters to their future selves, and keepsakes that embody the camaraderie and adventure that define their scouting experience.

“The time capsule allows us to connect with future generations of scouts,” said Den Leader Nathan Munn. “We want them to understand what it was like to be a Webelos in 2024 and to share in the excitement and joy we feel every day in scouting.”

The time capsule is scheduled to be sealed on November 11, 2024, with plans to open it in June 2025 to include photos of the scouts’ adventures throughout the year. It will be marked for a future opening in 2040, commemorating a 15-year milestone for the Webelos den of Pack 4420. The scouts are eager to see how their contributions will resonate with future Webelos, who will learn about their lives and experiences.

Parents expressed pride in their children’s initiative, noting how projects like this foster leadership and responsibility among young scouts. “I might be here as an Airman when it’s opened again,” said Webelos Hunter Munn.

As the Webelos Den of Pack 4420 prepares to seal their time capsule, they look forward to a future filled with possibilities, proud of their role in preserving the spirit of scouting at Andersen AFB for years to come.

If your child is interested in joining scouting, we invite you to attend our meetings every Tuesday at 5:30 PM at Chapel II. Come see what our Pack has to offer! We look forward to welcoming new scouts and families.
