Exhibition: Communication Across Cultures

Artists: Korea Textile Design Association

Dates: Aug. 26 to Sept. 4, 2024, Opening Reception: Monday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m.

This exhibition will feature works of art created by 56 artists from this association that aims to promote business networking and trade promotion as well as innovation and technological advancement in the textile design industry.

According to Dr. Kyoung Hee Eom, president of the Korea Textile Design Association:

“The Korea Textile Design Association (KTDA) has been dedicated to fostering the infinite possibilities and growth of textile design. Each year, we promote the enhancement of designers’ skills and the collaboration between industry and academia. Through the exchange of international design ideas, we strive to develop innovative designs and nurture talented designers.

This year’s exhibition showcases creative and original works by designers and members from seven countries: Korea, USA, UK, Russia, Taiwan, China, and India. Each year, the submitted works continue to evolve, harmonizing quality, creativity, and a sense of trends. Such international design exchanges play a crucial role in shaping the future of textile design.

This event provides a valuable opportunity for designers and artists from around the world to share their unique artistic visions and gain new inspiration. The convergence of diverse cultural perspectives opens new creative breakthroughs, broadens the horizons of textile design, and fosters new trends and innovations. Through this exhibition, we reaffirm the value of creativity and innovation, and once again recognize the importance of international exchange.”

Exhibit: High Touch, High Tech

Artist: Dr. Lee Mi Jeong

Dates: Sept. 4 to 20, 2024, Opening Reception: Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m.

In this solo exhibition, Dr. Lee Mi Jeong will display a series of works that explore the balance between nature and technology by combining organic motifs with digital geometric imagery. According to Dr. Jeong “ “High Touch High Tech” is a concept introduced by the American futurist John Naisbitt in his book “Megatrends,” suggesting that as advanced technology becomes more prevalent, there is a resurgence in human warmth and connection. This human response to technology is termed “High Touch.” As technology advances, there is an innate human desire to find balance, recognizing the importance of nature, classicism, and tradition in achieving this equilibrium. Reflecting this balanced development of nature and technology, the current trend is expressed through textile design.
