The University of Guam Triton Advising Center invites UOG students and alumni to participate in an upcoming virtual session with Diplomat in Residence, Katelyn Choe, to learn about career pathways in the US Department of State. Choe will provide an overview of her experience as a US Diplomat, talk about possible career pathways, and the scholarship and fellowship options available for those who would like to pursue graduate school.
Choe has over 22 years of experience working for the U.S. Department of State and has represented the United States in various regions across the world, including diplomatic tours in The Netherlands, Afghanistan, Nepal, New Zealand, and South Korea. Currently, she focuses on providing guidance and advice to students and professionals seeking jobs, internships, scholarships, and fellowships related to a career in diplomacy.
For current UOG students, there are virtual internship opportunities where they can get matched up with different departments depending on their interests. For recent graduates and alumni professionals, there are scholarship and fellowship options, such as the Pickering Fellowship, that provide funding for graduate school. More details about these opportunities will be presented in the upcoming session.
Ron VanDon, a career specialist from the Triton Advising Center, stated: “We are excited to connect students to someone who can say, ‘Here’s what I experienced as a diplomat. Here’s how I got there, and here are the resources I used.’ We hope this session emboldens students to take that next step if pursuing a career in foreign and public service.”
