The nutrition team at University of Guam Cooperative Extension & Outreach invites the community to prioritize health for the New Year by learning to cook some new high-nutrition, low-sodium recipes at an upcoming cooking workshop.

It will be the third workshop of the Nihi ta Fanmama’tinas (Let’s Cook) series, led by registered dietitian nutritionist Dr. Tanisha Aflague and the Community Nutrition Education Program at UOG Extension. The series aims to educate community members of all ages how to cook healthier meals using local ingredients.

Residents can choose to attend one of two sessions:

Time: 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Date: Wednesday, Jan. 10 Location: Agriculture & Life Sciences Bldg., Room 125B, University of Guam Cost: $10

Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Date: Saturday, Feb. 10 Location: Agriculture & Life Sciences Bldg., Room 125B, University of Guam Cost: $10

This workshop will teach participants about the effects of a high-sodium diet and the importance of getting a variety of nutrients. They will also get hands-on experience making stuffed kamuti (sweet potato), gollai (vegetable) and salmon patties, and pumpkin turnovers.

To register, contact Clarissa S.N. Barcinas at (671) 735-2029 or csnbarcinas@triton.uog.edu. A $10 registration fee covers course materials and food samples.

The Nihi ta Fanmama’tinas workshops are an ongoing series and will continue to feature different topics in nutrition in the coming months. Follow UOG Cooperative Extension & Outreach on Facebook and Instagram for updates, or subscribe to the email list here.
