University of Guam President Anita Borja Enriquez and her counterpart from the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences (NTUNHS) recently signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to begin an exchange of students, faculty, and academic knowledge in their shared goal of educating future nurses.
Dr. Shu-Fang Vivienne Wu, President of NTUNHS, visited UOG to sign the agreement on November 13 accompanied by Dr. Hung-Ru Lin, Associate Dean of the College of Nursing, and Dr. Li-Ju Lin, Director of the International and Cross-Strait Education Center.
Interim Senior Vice President and Provost Dr. Sharleen Santos-Bamba and Dr. Yvette Paulino, Interim Dean of the Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health also represented UOG.
President Enriquez expressed interest in the NTUNHS potentially hosting UOG nursing students who may be seeking an international clinical experience and in exploring some of its advanced technologies, such as healthcare information technology. In exchange, UOG may host visiting NTUNHS students and faculty. NTUNHS has approximately 5,000 students and 500 faculty members.
“We are excited for this new partnership between UOG's Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health and National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences,” said Dr. Anita Borja Enriquez, UOG President. “Nursing students and faculty from both institutions will benefit from the exchange of ideas and program experiences which will contribute to the development of our respective healthcare workforce.”
Dr. Wu said the collaboration between the two universities is the result of an invitation from Director-General Paul Chen from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Guam, President Enriquez, and Dr. Kuan-Ju Chen, an Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics at UOG who also chairs the University’s Asia Pacific Studies Center.
UOG is also expanding the physical capacity of UOG’s Nursing Program, with the construction of a Nursing Annex commencing soon following a groundbreaking ceremony on November 20.
